Know your pet

It is great to know your pet and their personality. We had a client visit the clinic and explained how her dog just wasn’t herself. Upon examination, the 6 year old Staffy had extremely pale mucous membranes and was very flat.

The owner consented for us to proceed with x-rays where we found what looked to be a mass on her dog's spleen. After a lengthy discussion with the owner, it was decided to perform surgery and remove the mass. The dog was given a blood transfusion and stabilised prior to surgery. A 500g mass, which had burst and caused severe abdominal bleeding, was found and removed along with the entire spleen.

The patient stayed in hospital overnight and was discharged the following day with pain relief and antibiotics. She is three weeks post-op and doing great.
